Legion Varsity Wins First Region Game
The Legion Lancer Varsity Softball Team began their first Region contest with a 11-0 win over North Central.
The Lancers opened the Region IV-AA softball in strong fashion behind the 1 hit shutout pitched by Taylor Watson. Watson game up her only hit in the top of the last inning with 1 out before getting the final two outs to finish the game.
Momentum quickly joined the Lancers who turned a double play in the top of the first to keep North Central scoreless. The bottom half of the inning saw 4 runs put on the board capped by a 2-run homerun by first baseman Joei Owens. Malloree Sexton added the final two runs of the inning on a 2 RBI double to score Lexi Wilkinson and Riley Burton.
Watson shut down the visitors in the top of the second inning before Trinity Gibson was hit by a pitch. Two batters later Gabi Wilson doubled her home to make it 5-0.
Watson retired 3 straight batters in the top of the 3rd and received 2 more runs by the Lancers. Heads up baserunning scored 1 run and Gabi Wilson added to her RBI total for the second one.
Watson again retire three straight in the top of the fourth. The Lancers added 4 more runs in their half with Morgan Langley leading off with a single, then she stole second and scored on the overthrow. Joei Owens added another extra base hit with a double and scored on a double by Wilkerson. Wilkerson scored on a throwing miscue. Malloree hit a home run to finish the scoring.
Watson got into a jam with a leadoff walk. After 2 strikeouts, she gave up a double to left center putting runners on second and third before retiring the final batter with a strikeout.
JV won their game 14-0.
